I spoke to Mr.Capuano regarding turning off the lights in a classroom when it is not in use. The new building and the bottom floor are perfect for this activity as the new light fixtures can be turned on and off numerous times without any negative effect. Unfortunately the middle and top floor in the old building are not currently set up to handle this. The ballasts are the old kind and turning the lights on and off would amount to using more energy. As Mr. Capuano replaces the lights over the summer months, he will let me know and we can pursue this task on those floors.

I would encourage you to let the primary teachers in the bottom floor know that it is OK to turn thel ights off and we save energy. You can make posters and speak to the classrooms involved after asking the teacher for permission. Also you can work on the music, art, and science rooms to campaign to turn the lights off.

I like Amanda Dever’s idea of the children bringing in their own utensils rather than using plastic disposable items. I would suggest working on this idea for the MSchool and then carry it through the PSchool.

Amanda, alos if you have info on the Capri Sun juice packets please let Sophia Cuzzupe know about it.

Recycling is going great! Upper Darby will not pick up any recyclables which have been placed in a plastic bag. Cafeteria items will be dumped into one of the closed containers and the container will be placed outside due to bugs and the aroma coming from the bins. Paper will continue to go in open containers.

Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!
